New The Host novels to come?
Even though nothing is official, it would seem that Open Road Films (the production company of The Host) has ordered for another two novels. Does this mean that we could defiantly be seeing The Host as a trilogy?
“It’s a liberating feeling that I’ll be directing something I haven’t had to make up. It’ll be fun. But I have to say, Stephanie gave me her 650-page book to adapt. That’s a workout to start with but I’ve managed to get it down to a script and there are two more movies coming after the initial movie,” he says. Clearly, he enjoys a challenge. “Well, yes. At first I thought, ‘this is going to be impossible’.”
So what do we know about the sequels so far?
Well we know that there will be three of them. Stephenie has said that she plans to call them The Soul and The Seeker. We also know that she said in a interview at the Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere that she has parts of it written and she knows what is going to happen. She also said in the same interview that she has ten years before the production company can write their own sequels, so that narrows it down from ‘maybe somewhere in the next 500 years’ to with in ten years if Stephenie is going to write them herself (And I can’t see her not writing them.)
Stephenie has also said that she is hesitant because she knows that a fan favourite is going to die. Who this is? We have no idea, we can only guess and hope that we hear more about a new novel soon.
So could we see a new The Host novel before the movie comes out?
Possibly. But no one knows. I only say possible at this stage because when The Host came out, Stephenie announced it August 2007 ( article about the host coming out from August 2007) and The Host came out May 2008. This means that there is a possibility that if Stephenie announces a new novel before half way through the year, we may have the second book before the movie arrives. However, this is just me guessing, glass half full, right?
At this stage I would say it’s possible that it’s not too late to get a new novel this year, but then there is a good chance that we won’t.
Either way, the ten year countdown is on!
